Plant It, Grow It, Eat It: Garden-Enhanced Nutrition Education
Workshop
Description: Make
the connection from seed to table in this fun and delicious workshop.
We will explore ways to teach nutrition to elementary and middle
school students
through gardening, harvesting, and meal preparation.
Learn:
How to lead highly engaging, motivating, hands-on health
and nutrition lessons and activities.
Management strategies for harvesting, preparing, and enjoying fresh
fruits and vegetables with students.
Take
home: An
activity packet with standards-based lessons, recipes, and garden
kitchen resources.
Cost: $150/person. 1 semester unit of graduate education
credit available for an additional $60. Registration deadline,

The Growing Classroom: Intro to Garden-Based Learning
Workshop
Description: This
two-day workshop, located at the amazing Garden Classroom or
at your school site, is ideal for those interested in supplementing
their existing science program
with garden-based learning. Using The Growing Classroom activity
guide for grades 2-6, youll
experience hands-on activities, learn basic science concepts and
gardening techniques, and
develop management strategies for a school gardening program. Find
out how to teach the
standards while you guide students through the natural cycles of
the garden. Youll receive
Life Labs 480 page book, The Growing Classroom as well as
many other ideas and resources.
Two days 9:00-3:30. One-day Growing Classroom workshops can also
be arranged.
Learn:
How to lead garden-based learning activities from The Growing
Classroom activity guide.
Basic gardening skills, including composting, making seed flats,
preparing garden beds,
transplanting, and garden planning
Discuss: The Life Lab approach to Science
How to make outdoor, inquiry-based education work for different
student populations
The resources inside of The Growing Classroom activity guide, including
sections on: Creating a garden, garden-based learning activities,
gardening "how to's," and connecting garden-based learning
to academic content standards.
Take home: The Growing Classroom activity guide, An action
plan for your school garden
Cost:
$300/person. 1 semester unit of graduate education credit available

Sowing the Seeds of Wonder: Discovering the Garden in Early Childhood
Workshop
Description: This
one-day workshop, located at the amazing Garden Classroom or at
your school site, is designed to give you the opportunity to see
the garden through the eyes of a
young child. Learn to set up a garden space that will encourage
children to explore, ask questions,
and connect to the natural world around them. Learn activities to
engage childrens curiosity and enthusiasm while introducing
them to fundamental ideas in environmental science.
Learn:
Lessons that introduce young children to the properties of soil,
seeds, plants, and animals
Songs and books that connect to garden lessons
Gardening design elements and techniques that are specifically effective
for young children
Take
home:Sowing the Seeds of Wonder, a 120-page activity guide
for children ages 3-6.
